P.E and Sport Funding

P.E and Sport Funding
at St John’s Catholic Infant School

St John's Vision Statement for P.E:

Our aim is for all children at St John's Catholic Infant School to experience high-quality Physical Education(P.E), school sports and physical activity that will lead to a lifelong participation in sports as part of a healthy lifestyle.

We will aim to:

  • improve children's health and well being

  • provide high quality sporting opportunities for all

  • assist each individual to be the best that they can be

  • encourage community involvement and responsibility

  • promote a lifelong love of sport

  • celebrate sporting achievements

  • continue the lasting legacy of the Olympic and Paralympic games.

We recognise that sport has an important role to play in raising standards and narrowing the achievement gap. Research has shown that sports as part of a broad and balanced curriculum can improve attendance, behaviour and attainment. Sports can also build self-esteem, teamwork and leadership skills.

The PE and Sport Premium Grant is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sports activities they offer their pupils. Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sports, but they have the freedom to choose how they do this. It is important to emphasise that the focus of spending must lead to long-lasting impact against the vision (above) that will live on well beyond the Primary PE and Sport Premium funding.

Department for Education Vision for the Primary PE and Sport Premium

All pupils leaving primary school are physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport. To achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of PE and sports in primary schools.

It is expected that schools will see an improvement against the following 5 key indicators:

  1. the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy active lifestyles

  2. the profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement

  3. increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport

  4. broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils

  5. increased participation in competitive sport.
